Conveying equality, diversity & inclusion in the defence, aeronautics and space sectors

How equal, diverse and inclusive are the defence, aeronautics and space sectors? Discover how logos communicated a European Commission survey and its conclusions to gather the lacking data and eventually support its Gender Equality Strategy.

Never before had demographic studies of the EU’s defence, aeronautics and space sectors taken into account equality, diversity and inclusion (ED&I) considerations. When the European Commission launched the project to gauge such considerations throughout the EU, logos was tasked to communicate the survey to interested stakeholders—as well as its conclusions once filled out.

Challenge

Disseminate a survey and craft a story convincing enough for the defence, aeronautics and space industries in the European Union to fill out. Raise awareness about the survey, and disseminate its main conclusions, and what they mean for the future.

Solutions

logos tapped into its expertise in strategic communications and event organisation to deliver a strategy responding to 3 objectives: raise awareness about the very existence of the survey, encourage responses and promote its results.

Our vertical expertise in defence, aeronautics and space – combined with our consortium partners’ – facilitated a thorough understanding of what was at stake and allowed us to find how to better communicate in these very specific sectors.

Our message was clear. Recipients would help foster more equality, diversity and inclusion in their workplace by making invisible issues visible, and therefore help provide the means to fix them.

To this end, we outlined a strong plan mixing e-mail marketing, organic social media & stakeholder kit, and media relations, enriched with a leaflet and other storytelling assets to make a greater impact to our two target audiences—companies, institutions and trade associations as first recipients and ED&I organisations and permanent representatives, acting as amplifiers.

In addition, logos organised an online workshop and an online event. While the first workshop provided an overview of the state of play of the sectors and highlighted the availability of the survey, the event disclosed the main results and key findings. Each event had a curated agenda and speaker line-up gathering top expertise from the industry, top minority voices and high profiles within the European Commission.
