On 1 January, Portugal holds the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union, thereby continuing the trio it has formed with Germany and Slovenia. The Portuguese will hand over the Presidency to Slovenia at the end of June 2021.
On 1 July, Germany holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), starting a new trio formed with Portugal and Slovenia for the next 18 months.
On 1 January, Croatia, the member state that has joined the Union most recently, holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), thereby completing the trio it has formed with Romania and Finland.
