case study

raising the profile of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme

FIM is one of the most famous international sports federations with a membership of 112 national federations across Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia, Africa and Oceania.

challenge

Though acknowledged by industry and sports fan, FIM was not acknowledged as a credible partner in policy circles. Back in 2007, the initial challenge was position the federation in the eyes of European policymakers as a credible voice of the industry, committed to the advancement of clean transportation. logos offered to adopt a targeted engagement strategy through the organisation of policy roundtables and greater participation in major industry events.

The team at logos are exceptional professionals. It is a pleasure to work with such dedicated and enthusiastic people.  Their advice has been crucial in advancing the work of the FIM. For example, in the development of the Euro 4 regulations for motorcycles which came into force in 2016 and will soon be followed by Euro 5. In the road safety aspects, we achieved everything the FIM was advocating for. I recommend logos as the best partner to have for public affairs work.

solutions

In 2010, as a first step to strengthen the FIM’s visibility, logos organised in the European Parliament a policy debate on alternative fuels. The event showcased FIM’s activities in promoting alternative energy use in motorcycling sport and underlined the advantage of motorcycles as early adopters of clean technologies. Following a successful first edition, the FIM policy roundtable became a yearly fixture of the Brussels agenda. For a decade, in the third quarter, FIM has been gathering dozens of European regulators and industry partners to discuss policy issues affecting the motorcycling community.

Today, logos assists FIM on the full spectrum of its public affairs engagement in Brussels. As the governing body of international motorcycle racing sports, FIM acts as a global advocate for motorcycling and road safety. logos thus provides intelligence and monitors policy developments on road safety and transport regulations, including on new mobility solutions such as automation. But beyond its good understanding of regulatory developments, logos gathered compelling evidence to support FIM’s advocacy claims and shaped the messages so as to ensure the best possible outcome.

results

Thanks to effective outreach and advocacy activities, including participation in Brussels-based policy events, logos has helped FIM to increase its public profile. Together, the challenges of vulnerable road users have been brought to the fore of the mobility debate. For example, logos facilitated regular one-to-one meetings with high-profile decision-makers to present FIM’s aspirations for the future of sustainable and safe mobility in which motorcycles can play a valuable role. Today, FIM is acknowledged as a legitimate and constructive stakeholder trusted by both industry and policymakers.
